A MAN WHO ‘SNAPPED’ AND THREW HIS BABY GIRL AT A TV HAS BEEN JAILED FOR 35 YEARS
Rhydian Lyn Rhys Jamieson admitted guilt to attempting to murder his infant daughter after causing severe injuries on January 15, 2025.He appeared before Swansea Crown Court today to receive his sentence.
The court was informed that Jamieson, residing in Cwm Cou, Newcastle Emlyn, was alone with the baby at a residence in Y Ferwig, Ceredigion, for less than thirty minutes before the injuries occurred.
He confessed that he ‘snapped’ for reasons unknown, threw the child whose identity remains protected by a court order and then covered her with a blanket before fleeing.
Later, he contacted a friend via Snapchat, claiming he had killed the baby, saying, ‘I’m done, I’m finished.’ The infant’s mother revealed to police that she received multiple missed calls from Jamieson and voice messages saying, ‘you’re going to hate me … I didn’t mean to, I’m sorry’, followed by ‘I don’t know if she is still breathing … I don’t know, I left her, what have I done?
Jesus’.
Concerned, friends contacted emergency services, prompting calls to Dyfed-Powys Police, Surrey Police, and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
The mother returned home swiftly after noticing the messages, discovering her child face down on a bed beneath a blanket.
The infant was alive but injured and was taken to hospital.
Police officers searched the home and found a TV on the floor where a bed should have been, along with small bloodstains on a bedsheet and discarded clothing of the baby.
Within thirty minutes of the initial call, Jamieson was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and neglect.
While being taken into custody, Jamieson expressed disbelief, saying, ‘I can’t believe that I tried to kill my daughter,’ and was later charged with attempted murder of a child, which he admitted in court on April 10, 2025.
He was subsequently sentenced to 35 years imprisonment.
